Want more?  Here are the nitty-gritty's:

Why take the challenge?  Understanding money is a life skill.  It affects just about every part of our lives from the things we can do and have to our sense of financial security and even our relationships.  It's important.  And the good news is, we can begin to teach our kids the ins and outs of money while they are still young.  In fact, we should teach them while they are young.  It's in those early years that our habits are formed, so establishing healthy ones is important.

The best way to begin establishing these healthy habits is to get our kids actively involved in doing money.  You'll see how that happens during the challenge.  But, a heads-up, your kids are going to get pretty excited about this.  They're fascinated by "grown-up" stuff, and money falls into that category.  Let's tap into that fascination and give them the skills to become saving savvy and money smart.

So here we go...

Starting on Monday, May 10, you will receive an email each day, Monday through Friday, until the 15 days are up. In those emails will be your activity for the day. Choose a time of day when you think you can be the most consistent about completing the activity. During dinner or right before bedtime are always favorites.  I know you're busy, so the activity should take less than 20 minutes. Except for the first day, your kids will be working the challenge with you.

If you happen to miss a day or two, don't panic. This is a no-pressure challenge. Simply weave the activity in when you can. The weekends are a great time to play catch-up.

If you have any questions or comments along the way, email me. Or, better yet, post your question or comment on my blog page so that others who are wondering or thinking the same thing can be involved. People coming together to share ideas benefits all of us.  If you click on the blog page now, you'll find out a little more about me and the Challenge.

If you'd like to get others involved, say the parents at your child's school, I have created fliers you can pass out.  Click here for the black and white flier.  Click here for the colored flier.

Teaching kids about money can be fun.  Take the challenge and learn how.

Wishing you all the best as you teach your children to be saving savvy and money smart!

About Me

I'm a mom, a wife, and an educator.  And I love each of those roles with equal passion.  But you were probably more interested in something like this:

Karyn Hodgens studied child development at Chico State University before receiving her master’s degree in education with a specialization in elementary mathematics. With a multiple-subjects teaching credential, for over two decades, her passion has been designing real-world lessons that resonate with kids and their interests. In 2006, Hodgens co-founded Kidnexions (kid·neck·shuns), a kids’ educational company with the mission to help kids make connections between what they are learning and their every day lives. In partnership with her husband, John, she created KidsSave, a kids’ savings and money management software program designed as a tool to help parents teach their children how to save and spend money wisely. Karyn continues to teach elementary and middle school kids how to prepare for their financial futures in addition to writing about kids and money issues. She is the author of Raised for Richness, a “how to” to help kids master financial literacy and written as a family guide to show parents and caregivers how to initiate vital dialogue on money—and life.   Contact Karyn at:  karyn@kidnexions.com
